Client: Nederlandse MuseumverenigingIJsfontein developed museumkids.nl in collaboration with the Netherlands Museums Association. This transmedia youth platform revolves around Dutch Museums and everything that is to be experienced in them.

On museumkids.nl children play games about all kinds of Dutch museums. Games are played with the digital animal TIKKIT. Their scores are displayed on an online scoreboard. In addition, children can review their museum visits like a real Museum inspector. They do this by answering questions, for instance about the things you can learn and do there, but also about specific activities for children and the museum shop.
Culture popping into view
Tikkit brings children in contact with the Dutch cultural heritage in various locations and ways – and makes them enthusiastic about museum visits to boot. Each game has a theme in which museum pieces from a variety of museums have been included. IJsfontein closely collaborates with the museums to develop a game.
The objectives have been amply exceeded. From the start of the project until May 2013, over 370,000 unique players have played the game over 870,000 times. That means that one in three children in the Netherlands in ages ranging from 7-11 years have played one or more ‘mijnTIKKIT’ games!
The objects the player uses during the game, really exist. The player can see where the pieces are exhibited on the site or in the game. Children can collect folding cards, stickers and treasure maps in the participating museums, encouraging museum visits.
