Client: Mercedes-Benz Global Training

The new generation A-class has been in the showrooms since early May. In order to make sure that the world wide salesforce can offer high quality advice to their clients, they are trained during the Mercedes-Benz Global Training Experience. The newest models and technological developments will be shown during this training event. IJsfontein and Wegesrand-Expert-Network designed and developed a mixed reality experience, which allows visitors to discover the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class and learn about its newest features.

Visualizing invisible systems

With Radar, sonar and 3D stereo cameras, new cars are intelligent and intuitive. Like most new developments in the technology sector, these systems are invisible and abstract. How can you show all those dealers how these systems work? And how do you make sure their functions are quickly well understood?

It’s like walking through an animated 3D infographic

IJsfontein developed a Mixed Reality experience in which the visitor explores a physically present A-Class, enhanced by virtual information though the Microsoft HoloLens.

During a 6 minute tour, visitors walk around the car and virtually activate the sensors of the car themselves. This way, they can experience what the A-Class ‘sees’ and how it reacts to what it ‘sees’.

The experience also shows fully scaled situations in which these sensors are used. You can see, for example, virtual cars and cyclists entering the detection zone and hear the alarm signals go off in the car. It’s like walking through a three dimensional, animated infographic.

At the end of the tour all sensors are shown in their active state, filling up the space around the A-Class with 360° virtual information –  an impressive sight.
