The action game Kees Komma and the book gang challenges children to carefully read and listen in order to solve a puzzle. Children who experience difficulties reading, often do not enjoy reading, but this game changes all that.

In short

Learn to listen and read well in order to solve the puzzle. Kees Komma focusses on children of 8-10 years who have trouble reading. This age often reveals difficulties with reading (comprehension). The game makes reading fun again!

How it works

Children see and hear snippets of a story. In the written text, a word (or several words) have been made illegible, in the spoken text another word has been bleeped out. The children need these two words to know which balloons they have to puncture with Kees Komma. In the game snippets from 3 children’s books have been used. The game is an introduction to audio books for children from about 8 to 10 years. By reading and listening along with Kees Komma, children can experience how much fun reading can be.

At home and in the classroom

Kees Komma is suitable for use at home, in the classroom, in public libraries, or during remedial teaching. The game is free and can be played on any computer with an internet connection. The game is also available as an app for iOS and Android.

Result

The children who have tested Kees Komma, rate the game with an 8.5 average. Taking the words has been made especially difficult, because that is what the children who have helped to test it liked best. “We like it when it is very hard to do”.
